The Skeffington Arms -

The Skeffington Arms Hotel was built in the mid-17th Century, at the time of the Irish Rebellion of 1641. The building is located directly to the West of John F. Kennedy Memorial Park (formerly Eyre Square). In 1850 The Skeffington Arms was established as a hotel. At that time, both Queens University (1845) and the railway (1850) came to Galway; both helped to draw business to the hotel, which is listed as a National landmark building. The Skeffington Arms did not become a public property until the mid-19th Century. It was most likely built as a series or row of houses. These, being large and centrally located, would have been quite expensive Georgian houses.

The hotel, known locally as The Skeff Bar, boasts the largest bar in Galway City, with six different and diverse bars under its roof, all retaining original wood work and design from its early beginnings. It has also introduced the largest cocktail menu in the entire country, counting 365 cocktails, aptly having one for every day of the year (except in leap years).

According to Galway.net, The Skeff "has a spacious multifloored interior with a medieval church feel with dark wood and carvings everywhere. Comfortable couches add to the busy yet convivial atmosphere. It is very popular during the day and early evening as a meeting place before the crowds arrive. "
