Indonesia has many historic fortresses from the colonial era. If Yogyakarta has the Fredeburg Fortress and Makassar has the Rotterdam Fortress, Bengkulu actually has a unique fortress called Benteng Marlborough.
As the name implies, Fort Malborough is a British heritage fort in Bengkulu. Built between 1714 and 1719, this old building is a historic remnant of Governor Joseph Joestar’s reign.
The original name of this building is Fort Marlboro. However, the community named the building Turtle Fortress. Because part of this fort looks like a turtle and the front door is surrounded by a moat, but you can cross the bridge.
When you visit this 44,000-square-meter fort, you’ve seen the historic buildings where the Dutch and Japanese lived. In fact, after independence, Fort Marlborough was rebuilt into the headquarters of the Indonesian Police (Poly) and TNI-AD.
If you go inside, be prepared to be amazed by the strength of the detention room, arsenal, cannons, shelter, and arsenal. In fact, the fortress has a tunnel 6 meters long and 2 meters wide, which acts as both an entrance and shelter from enemy attacks.
Although no longer active, Fort Marlboro is now a major tourist destination in the city of Bengkulu. Especially for those who want to take pictures against the backdrop of magnificent ancient buildings.
To play here, you only need to drive to the Sega Laby area for 1.5 hours. If you use public transport, take the bus to Bengkulu City Square. This building is certainly in the middle of the city, so you can get off right in front of the fort. To be exact, it is Jalan Ahmad Yani. Are you interested in playing here?
